Athletics Day

Today was Athletics day.

We did lots of different events and had lots of fun.

We even had a special gold medal winning visitor who helped us with a new event that we got to try - rowing!

Thank you to everyone who came and watched us. We all tried so hard to do our best and had lots of fun!

Our 'at' hunt

Today we were hunting for all the words that we could think of that had 'at' in them.

Our Little Garden

Today we planted our Little Garden.

We each got a different seed to plant.

We had to measure the water and pour it on our soil tablet. Then we watched the soil grow. Next we put most of the soil in our pot and put the seed mat on top. Then we put the last bit of soil on top. Last we put our sign in.

 We will need to watch our plant and water it each day!

Term 4!

We had a great start to Term 4 and are already well underway in our learning!

We loved coming back to read books today!

Book Character Dress Up Day

Today was Book Character Dress Up Day.

We came to school in some amazing costumes. 

We really enjoyed showing our costumes to the school in a parade and did some awesome writing about the book characters we were dressed up as.

The money donated to our dress up day went towards the sponsor child that Hinuera School supports.

Music!

We are learning to read and write lots of sight words.

In writing time we are encouraged to find the words that we know and write them in our stories.

Today Tayla wrote a super story!

She is learning to sound out and stretch words and is also learning to use finger spaces in her writing.

'I have a baby lamb and it was called Rosemary. The baby lamb was fluffy and it was cute. I am going to bring it to Ag Day'

Exploring Shapes

For maths we have been learning about Geometry - Shape.

Today we were exploring shapes. We named shapes, did some shape sorting and looked at how many sides and corners different shapes had.

We also made some shapes and some shape pictures.

Gold Mathletics certificates

This week two students in Room 2 got their very first gold certificates on Mathletics!

Chiefs visit

Today some of the Chiefs players came to our school.

They talked to use about the importance of always doing our best and showing resilience.

Oobleck!

This week we made oobleck in class.

We had lots of fun but we all thought it felt gooey and sticky!

Clever Counting

Today Miss Brown spotted some clever counting!

Evelyn and Olive counted all the way to 100 with the hundreds frame.

Jolly Phonics

We are working hard in Jolly Phonics time to learn all the letter sounds.

Our autumn leaf hunt

We have noticed that some of the leaves on the trees have started to change colour and fall to the ground because it is Autumn time!

Today we went on an autumn leaf hunt.

We collected some leaves and talked lots about what we could see and how we could describe the leaves.

Happy Mother's Day

We were busy this week making Mother's Day creations for our wonderful Mums. 

We wrote stories about what makes our Mums special and made some art to give them as a special present.

Measurement - length

In maths at the moment we are learning about measurement - length.

Today we talked about 'tallest' and 'shortest' and ordered some gingerbread men outlines.

Welcome to Tayla and Madison

Today we welcomed two new Hinni kids to Room 2.

Tayla and Madison both turned 5 in the school holidays.

Jolly Phonics Dictation

Today we did some dictation for Jolly Phonics.

We had to listen carefully to words and write down the sounds.

We wrote at and sat. We noticed that these words rhymed. 

We thought of other words we could add to the list.

Our ANZAC ceremony

ANZAC day is in the school holidays this year, so today our school had our ANZAC ceremony.

Lockie - the youngest student at our school, helped Kevin - the oldest student, to lay the wreath. 

We showed respect to the brave soldiers and other people that were in the wars.

Super weekend writing

Today we wrote stories about our weekend.

Here are some wonderful stories by Arley and Ali. They are both working on using finger spaces between every word that they write. They were working hard towards their learning goal.

In the weekend my cat was naughty. I heard a smash and my fish was flapping on the ground. The cat jumped up and knocked the fish tank. I said "Oh No! Naughty Kitty Cat."

In the weekend I went to the rugby field and the Chiefs won. We got twenty two points... It was exciting to watch. I felt happy to watch and it was loud.

Duathlon!

It was duathlon/triathlon day at Hinuera School today.

We all participated in the duathlon. We had to swim across the pool and then run around the course to the finish line.

We all tried very hard and had lots of fun! 

Congratulations to Addison who got third in the Year 1 girls race!

Junior School Swimming Showcase

Today was the Junior School Swimming Showcase.

It was our chance to shine! We showed our family and friends all the things we have been learning in swimming time.

We have all made such great progress!

We also had some races at the end! 

Congratulations to Lachlan, Harry, Arley de Jong, Addison and Harsahej who got placings in their flutterboard races!

Mathletics Superstars

We worked really hard in maths last week. We also all got our mathletics certificates and got the trophy for the winning class at Hinuera School.

Word detectives

We have been learning to read lots of words!

We are so clever and can find these in our classroom and make the words with letters.

Swimming superstars

We are all working so hard in swimming.

We have been learning to pick up objects from the bottom of the pool and starfish on our front and back.

We also are working on making our legs really strong by kicking!

We love the library!

On Friday mornings we go to the library.

We love looking at pictures in books.

Olivia even found some sight words that she knew in the book that she was looking at!

Today we welcomed Lockie to Room 2.

It was his birthday on Friday.

He got a blue two wheeler motorbike and lego for his birthday.

Today Room 4 came in to be our buddy class.

They helped us on mathletics. They read out the questions and helped us to complete activities.

Jolly Phonics - Pp

Today the Jolly Phonics sound we were learning was Pp.

We thought of lots of words that had the sound 'p' in them.

We made the letter with playdough and wrote the letter on the whiteboards.

Swimming superstars

We love going swimming!

In swimming we have been learning how to blow bubbles, put our heads under the water and pick up objects from the bottom of the pool.

We are also working hard to improve our kicking skills.

We are making great progress already!

Numicon

We have been exploring Numicon.

This is a great tool to help us with our mathematical number knowledge.

 We looked at what numbers they represent, how to order the numicon shapes, how we can make other numbers with them and how many ones go into each number.

Today we started Jolly phonics.

We are learning about letters and the sounds that they make.
